Dilapidated Dublin Residence Hiding Beneath Hoarding is Rehabilitated to a $1.5 Million Home

A severely dilapidated residence in a quiet neighborhood was the known visual blight on the street. Blighted buildings are known to be attractive nuisances for children, and the City of Dublin took immediate action towards rehabilitation to protect the community.

Outside of the residence—consumed by overgrown vegetation and broken windows—only foreshadowed what code enforcement officers would find inside. Inside revealed a hoarding house with bug infestation, no running water or electricity, and dangerous structural integrity due to mold growth and damaged drywall. The City red tagged the property as unfit for human habitation due to its extreme unsafety.

The property owner was ordered to abate the dangerous conditions, however, decided to sell the residence to a responsible buyer who was overseen by a stayed receiver to ensure timely compliance and rehabilitation.

The buyer proved to be responsible and quickly remediated the substantially dangerous conditions and recovered the City’s costs and fees accrued from code enforcement efforts. Now, this Dublin residence is a beautiful 1,700+ sq. ft., 4-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom home valued at $1.5 million. This case highlights a true victory for all parties involved; the City, the owners, and most importantly—the community.
